Whoever said money couldn't buy happiness has never starved a day in their lives.

My name is Aria Valencia, a third year classical music student at the University, and I was down to my last dollar. Some nights, I seriously considered stripping at the Skin Bar just to make ends meet, but the thought of my dad's spirit--God rest his soul--scowling at me while I shoved my breasts into some pervert's face was enough to turn me off the idea completely.

And then one night, chance came knocking on my door under the guise of the Midnight Society, a secret cabal comprised of the most wealthy and influential souls this side of the Universe. Their leader was a man named Shadow, who was equally enigmatic as he was gorgeous and, for some mystifying reason, had his dark brooding eyes focused on me.

Seduced by the promises of fame and fortune in exchange for a seemingly innocent request, I soon found myself drawn into a provocative world filled with both vast riches and unending lies and it didn't take long for me to realize what being a part of the Midnight Society actually entailed: shiny things, hot sex, and dead bodies.

There's a dark side to every love story, and this one was mine.

Head over to Logan's website to read an excerpt of the entire first chapter of Semblance and while your there join his exclusive guest list  to learn more about The Midnight Society.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Logan discovered both love and heartbreak at the tender age of seven, when the pretty little blue-eyed girl next door stole his Kit-Kat bar and shared it with the bad boy from across the street. Devastated, Logan found solace by escaping into imaginary worlds he forged with words, creating kingdoms where the chivalrous knight always got the princess.

Twenty three years later Logan spends his days in a suit and tie, working for the government on matters of network security. However his thoughts never strayed too far from the incendiary nature of love — the passionate fire that’s both scintillating and dangerous. Obsessed with exploring the steamy and mysterious side of human nature, Logan continues to create worlds filled with thrills, mystery, and of course, sex.

*Release Day Blitz+ Review* Death of the Body by Rick Chiantaretto

Create your own banner at mybannermaker.com!

Today is the release day of Death of the Body by Rick Chiantaretto!

Title:  Death of the Body
Series: (Crossing Death #1)
Author:  Rick Chiantaretto
Genre: New Adult Urban Fantasy

I grew up in a world of magic. By the time I was ten I understood nature, talked to the trees, and listened to the wind. When the kingdom of men conquered my town, I was murdered by one of my own—the betrayer of my kind. But I didn't stay dead.

I woke to find myself in a strange new world called Los Angeles. The only keys to the life I remembered were my father’s ring, my unique abilities, and the onslaught of demons that seemed hell-bent on finding me. Now I must learn who I really am, protect my friends, get the girl, and find my way back to my beloved hometown of Orenda.
SUCH A TEASE

MY REVIEW

Writing Style:
I would describe Rick Chiantaretto’s writing as vivid and articulate. The horror elements in his writing are gruesome and fear-inducing. The world he creates is astonishing and quite complex; it draws you in and takes you on hell of a ride that will leave you gasping for breath. His character development is remarkable; each character comes to life before your eyes in such a realistic manner. You can literally feel their emotions flow off the pages. The magical elements are fantastically intriguing and will make you wish you had the ability to perform magic yourself.

I loved how Death of the Body was divided up into three sections, (Prologue, Reborn, and Recovery) because they represent a timeline of Edmund’s journey. Each section covers a different stage in his life and brings his past and present together beautifully. The different sections make the book a breeze to read and give you built-in intermissions. I found this to be a double plus because once you start this book you don’t want to put it down. (Unfortunately humans have to eat sometimes)

My opinion:
Death of the Body wasn’t what I expected it to be…. It was so much more! It honestly scared the daylights out of me. The energumen (demons) in this book are absolutely terrifying and vicious things.  I’ve been freaking out every time I hear the wind blow loudly or see a strange dark shadow. One encounter Edmund had in particular has shaken me to the core. I’m not sure I will ever be able to get the image out of my mind. This is saying a lot because it takes a lot to freak me out, I totally don’t scare easily. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the second teaser pictured above is from that very encounter. *shudders*

Edmund has such a strong will to live. He is loyal, compassionate, and brave. My heart aches for him because everything has been taken away from him, yet his hope never falters.  He goes through some horrible situations that would break most people but he always finds a way to survive. I have a feeling that no matter what happens he will find a way to make things right. He is a fighter and will do anything it takes to get justice for his people. I cannot wait to continue on with him in his journey!

As a whole I loved just about everything in this novel. I was a little taken back by all the religious references at first, sometimes a bit confused, but they are important to the story. Without them the book would seem incomplete. In the end everything falls into place and makes perfect sense. I just wish it didn’t end in a cliff-hanger because now I have to wait to find out what happens. I hate not knowing. The wait for the next book may kill me.

Any book that can terrify me to the core and make my nerves a bit unsteady deserves to be read. When I calmed down, I found this book to be thought provoking. My curiosity is peaked; I need to know more about the 7 levels and the unknown. I really really really want the next book like right now. Patience is not a virtue I have mastered yet. So what are you waiting for? Go get your copy of Death of the Body… you won’t regret it!

About Rick Chiantaretto
1005771_573547986029946_976679398_nI’ve often been accused of having done more in my life than the average 30 year old, but if I were completely honest I’d have to tell you my secret: I’m really 392.

So after all this time, I’m a pretty crappy writer.

I have one book published but out of print, one coming out soon, and a bunch half written (when you have eternity, where’s the reason to rush?). I’ve been favorably reviewed by horror greats like Nancy Kilpatrick, and my how-to-write-horror articles have been quoted in scholarly (aka community college freshmen’s) papers.

I enjoy the occasional Bloody Mary, although a Bloody Kathy or Susan will suffice.

Mostly, I just try to keep a low profile so people don’t figure out who I REALLY am.

*Cover Reveal* AFTERLIFE BY ZOE DAWSON

COVER REVEAL
AFTERLIFE
(THE STARBUCK CHRONICLES, BOOK #1)
BY ZOE DAWSON
Expected release is January 20, 2014
Adult Urban Fantasy (with romantic elements)
Cover designed by Jessica Allain

 Series Overview
The fine thread between reality and the fantastical has snapped. The mortal and supernatural must learn to co-exist in post-reality Minneapolis/St. Paul where video games leak monsters into the night, demons roam, thirsting for more than just blood, people are not who or what they seem and a diabolical evil plots and plans to devour the world.

 AfterLife
Lily Starbuck’s day doesn’t start well with blood on the horizon and a grumpy werewolf who refuses to pay his catering bill. Her day only gets worse when she finds out that her business partner in their catering company has embezzled all their available cash.

Lily can get no answers from her partner when she finds her dead. That’s the least of her worries—her landlord is evicting her, she’s being hounded by the Fairy Dust Administration (FDA) who suspects that her partner was dealing in illegal dust, and Lily’s pissed off their werewolf supplier.

With Lily’s very livelihood in jeopardy, she has no choice but to discover who killed her partner and try to track down the cash. She has only Spocko, a small, wizened gnome with just a bit of gremlin blood in him that makes him cantankerous at best to depend on, but he often goes invisible on her. Clues lead her to an open case being investigated by Otherworld Security (O.S.) and the tough O.S. Warden, shapeshifter, Tam Darkwood. And, at the outset of the investigation, a tiny, mythical fire-breathing, red dragon joins her as her trusty (and opinionated) sidekick, Kindle.

It seems a rogue mage has created a video game that is unwarded and game monsters are being released to terrorize the citizens of the Twin Cities. Trouble is Lily has reason to believe that this mage killed her partner.

The investigation takes an unexpected turn when they are led to influential and powerful Archmage Tarquin Wilding and somehow Lily finds herself embroiled in a sinister shadow Fae plot. With her friends at her side, she tackles dangerous and unpredictable supernaturals and monsters with an “all in a day’s work” attitude.

A cool breeze shook Mom’s rose bushes and the few hedges that surrounded one side of the patio. But when the wind stopped, the bushes didn’t. I froze staring into the darkness trying to see the threat that was waiting just to the side of my family home. I held my breath trying to decide whether or not to make a run for it. I couldn’t hesitate much longer. Rising slowly from the swing, I lingered again trying to judge the distance between the swings and the safety of the kitchen door.

Can I make it before it gets me? IT! Coming outside again tonight was a bad idea.

*Blitz + Giveaway & Excerpt* Misplaced by Lee Murray

Accepted Readers,

Today I have a blitz + giveaway + excerpt for you! Misplaced by Lee Murray falls into the new adult/mystery genres and sounds like edge- of -your- seat read. I am a huge fan of missing person stories and the mysteries that surround them.

In Misplaced a teenager's mom goes missing and when the leads in the case go cold; his life begins to fall apart. I wouldn't want to ever be in this situation and I just know this will be a heart-breaking story, BUT I still want to read it. Between the blurb and excerpt, I became hooked. I hope you feel the same way after reading the excerpt and blurb! If you do, make sure to enter the giveaway below to win your own copy of Misplaced!

*Note*
I am a bit late on posting this blitz, it didn't post when I had  scheduled it to. I was out of town and unfortunately had very bad internet reception where I was. I just got home and wasn't able to post this until now. My apologizes.

Excerpt One:

The make-up girl has a silver nose ring and hair streaked psychedelic orange.

‘Almost done,’ the girl says, puffing his face with powder. She has bony knuckles like cauliflower stalks. Holding his breath, Adam wills himself not to fidget as she deals to the fresh eruption of zits on his forehead. Right now, a few spots are the least of his worries.

‘There, that’s put some colour in your cheeks.’

Adam opens his eyes, stares at the mirror, and doesn’t say anything. Even with the powder, he’s as pale as Colgate. There’s fuzz on his chin and dark bags under his eyes. He looks like a druggie, a metal-head on a bender.

The Powder Puff girl selects a lipstick from a tray which, held vertically, could be a Connect Four player board.

Resolution Red.

With a practised twist, she pushes up the tube.

‘Pucker up, now,’ she coaxes. ‘Give me your sexiest pout, the one the girls love.’ But Adam clamps his mouth shut, pursing his lips in a thin line, and shakes his head. No lipstick. This isn’t an audition for American Idol.

‘But...’ The Powder Puff girl puts on a pout of her own.

‘No!’ he says, with more vehemence than is warranted.

The girl shrugs, rolls her eyes. ‘Whatever.’ She packs up her Connect Four box and leaves him there.

‘One minute, people!’ the floor manager screams. Through the scramble of movement, Adam is aware of Dad, shuffling about on the spot off to the side of the make-shift set, a man out of his comfort zone. Six days a week, Dad’s natural habitat is Creighton Cars, the yard that he runs. On Sundays he mows the lawns, then slumps in front of the telly, cold beer in hand, watching whatever sport happens to be on.

Adam notices that Dad’s tugging his earlobe again. Dad always does that when he’s out of sorts. It’s a good thing the clients haven’t cottoned on or he’d never sell any cars. Lately, he’s pulled that lobe so often it’s a wonder he isn’t mistaken for a tribesman from Borneo.

Not that Adam isn’t uncomfortable. He wishes it hadn’t come to this. The thing is, the news people insisted a public appeal could make a difference. They said it’d made a difference in other cases. But Dad couldn’t face it, so Adam had agreed to do it instead. At this point Adam would agree to car surf down Auckland’s Queen Street in the wrong direction at rush hour, if there was a chance it would make a difference.

Anyway, it’s better Adam does it because, being younger than Dad, he’ll make the biggest impact, apparently. Adam knows this because he heard the camera crew chatting. They’d started off saying how Adam and Dad’s story was made for television, the kind of story that won awards. Then one of them said it was a bummer that Adam was seventeen. That’s when the guy holding the boom said, in these kind of cases, nothing tops a 7-year-old girl, especially a little blondie with dimples.

‘Trust our freaking luck!’ They’d laughed then, quietly amongst themselves, but one of them caught Adam looking and quickly shushed the others.

‘Hey, show a bit of compassion, will ya?’

Maybe this is how his life will be from now on. People shushing each other or looking away. Feeling sorry for him.

‘Adam? We’re ready for you.’ The floor manager speaks quietly. Adam’s grateful. Right now he feels like the entire cast of Lost, like something awful is about to happen. Maybe it already has, maybe he’s living in a parallel universe and none of this is real, but whatever it is, Adam doesn’t get any of it. He gets to his feet and allows the floor manager to direct him to the lectern. Placing both hands on either side of the lectern, Adam steadies himself.

This has to work. Please, let this work. Please.

But Adam knows that even if it does, nothing will be quite the same.

‘In 5... 4... 3...’ The floor manager holds up two fingers, then one...

The microphone makes a soft buzz as it’s switched on. Adam pauses, marvelling at how they actually do that, the holding up the finger thing.

Oh shit.

He’s on national television. His face spreads with warmth: the nasty-but-nice feeling you get when you pee in the sea. Great. His face will be red and blotchy now. He inhales deeply.

Swallows.

Stares directly at the camera lens.

What if this is the last time he ever speaks to her?

‘Mum... Mum, if you’re out there, if you can hear this, please, please call and let us know you’re all right. Whatever’s wrong, Dad and me, we’re worried. Please, Mum, just come home...’
