It's all fun and games until someone ends up undead.
Though Layla reluctantly returns home to rural Hamletville after a desperate call from her psychic grandmother, she could never have anticipated the horror of what Grandma Petrovich has foreseen. The residents of Hamletville will need Layla's help if they are to survive the zombie apocalypse that's upon them. But that is not the only problem. With mankind silenced, it soon becomes apparent that we were never alone. As the beings living on the fringe seek to reclaim power, Layla must find a way to protect the ones she loves or all humanity may be lost.
“To label this a zombie book would be a
false pretense . . . this is so much more than that. What you start out with
and what you end up with are very different, and those twists and turns in the
middle will make your heart beat faster over and over again."-- Colossal

My Review
Writing Style:
I would describe the writing of The Harvesting as quick and to the point. The lack of detail made the
story dull at points and left me with many unanswered questions. The character development
and world building were appealing and well written.
My Opinion:
The Harvesting started off as a classic post-apocalyptic
novel with a supernatural twist. It begins with the human population being
contaminated with an unknown deadly virus. Many people die but soon become the
undead. Many crazy situations take place that will literally shock you to the
core. This book is NOT your typical zombie story. It has other paranormal creatures
along with things in the psychic realm.
The beginning and middle of this book were amazing! I loved
the action scenes and the way the characters came together. I enjoyed the chaos
and disorder. The fight to survive was challenging but the author always left a
sliver of hope behind. Hope is always good…. Right?
However once I reached a little over half way through the
story, things went downhill a bit. I feel like the author was trying to fit way
too many elements into her storyline. The last chapter confused me because I
was not sure how it fit into the plot. Maybe
it was an introduction to the next book? I’m not really sure. I also wished the
author would have gone into more details on how the virus was created and
explained what “the harvesting” meant.
Overall, I would rate this book as okay because I actually
did enjoy it. This novel has a lot of potential and I hope to see improvements
with the plot in the next book of the series.

A special note from
the author:
I was interviewed on a local TV show, a
Halloween special, about zombies. I am first up in the special and I talk
about zombies in general and the novel in particular--and I have horrible
posture and they made me wear my t-shirt--but this might be something nice for
people to watch if they are interested in the paranormal.
