And now an excerpt from Linked-

“Did you have to kiss him?” he asked me. “I mean, you belong to me now. You know that right? And in case you haven’t noticed I am insanely jealous.”

“Aren’t we suddenly possessive.” I walked over to him and wrapped my arms around his neck. “I think I need to accept all this. It still hasn’t sunk in.”

“I’ll tell you anything you want to know,” he offered. “Is there wine?” I laughed and went to the kitchen. He followed me. We sat down at the table.

“Is this real?” I asked. “I mean, can I see you as a vampire?”

“Yes,” he answered. “And no.” I handed him a glass of the wine he brought over the night we first made love. We never did get to drink it. He smiled when he realized what he was drinking.

“Why won’t you let me see you?” I asked.

“It’s too soon, Daphne. You will be most certainly be frightened.”

“Not of you,” I assured him.

“I’m not convinced.” He took another sip from his glass. “Do you want to know why I didn’t bite you?” he asked. “Are you scared to be with me now?”

“No, I’m not afraid of you,” I told him.

“Maybe you should be,” he answered. “Maybe you should run like hell.”

“Why didn’t you bite me?”

“I am very serious about self-control,” he started. “Besides I didn’t need to. I got what I needed just like you did.” I could feel my face flush. He smiled. “Love.”

“Love?”

“It changes things.”

“Is that what linked means?” I asked.

“It’s complicated, Daphne, and I have no idea how it happened so quickly. One minute I was taking you to bed and the next… well… I can’t get you out of my head. And the strangest part about this is we’ve only been together a few times. I didn’t know it could be like this.”

“I don’t understand.”

“Joe’s right, I no longer have a soul.”

“I don’t believe that,” I told him. “I just don’t believe that.”

“The soul you possess…” he reached out and took my hand, “it used to be mine.”
